Introduction
I never really broke down what I’m doing these weeks and why you might care to read the newsletter each week so lets do that now. I’ll be quick…
I’ve been working in Tech for 25 years now, mostly in supportive technical roles. I’ve always preferred to be more closely connected to the user community rather than trying to rise up the ranks, but I’ve done ok. Over the years I’ve found myself struggling with ssues that went along with undiagnosed ADHD and found solutions, not realizing how much they meant.
As I’ve figured out my own answers I’ve thought that I would love to share them, but never felt confident leaving the corporate womb. I also generally felt so drained from that 9 to 5 that I had no interest in working on things. I also realized early on that my family time and self-care was the most important thing in my life.
I’ve reached a point in my life, albeit against my will, that I have the free time to work on my ability to share my experience and perspective, so that’s what I’m doing.
The Long Term Goal
My “Mission Statement” is more or less the following:
To find or build resources for distracted people, neurodiverse or not. Helping to create a system or share tips that make life easier and more consistent. Through mindfulness, self-awareness and general life-hacking I think everyone can “compete” on a similar playing field and with the right tools we can all accomplish our dreams.
The meat of that is, I would like to create an audience of like-minded or curious where we can find answers, build tools and generally overcome the struggles that those with executive dysfunction face.
What that looks like today?
I’m starting off by writing on Medium, you can see my stuff at mindfullish.com, building an audience, finding my voice and generally just getting myself into a consistent “groove” with writing. I’m also telling my story here, in this weekly newsletter. My past posts were just talking about those Medium posts, future will as well. I plan to share what I liked, what I learned and what my audience liked.
I’m also starting to post some on LinkedIn and working on growing my following there.
Medium - Week 3
I wrote 10 posts last week, 2 per day on the weekdays. They don’t all show up on the same day, sometimes I submit to a publication and that delays their release.
Most popular to date - My Intro Post
Most popular last week - ADHD from a Sociological Perspective
My favorite last week - To Get Better- Embrace the Suck!
For those curious about earnings, in March I’ve made $42 on Medium with 430 Followers. I also got a $3 donation on Ko-Fi, so my journey is up to $45 earned!
What I’ve learned so far
Mostly I’ve learned about my energy levels on any given day, I’m much more focused before lunch, then I lull a bit in the early afternoon and find some focus time between 3-7.
I seem to navigate to the topic of Mindfulness, the habit of Journaling and increasing awareness of ADHD and Neurodiversity.
I’m spending time working on templates in Notion for myself and for my audience and that scratches my “nerdy technical itch” and hopefully brings value.
Finding followers takes some work, getting actual subscribers even more so, but I feel my message is valid and I’m still excited to grow it.
