Growing My Community and Remembering My Purpose - Ep. 8
Lessons learned, focus found and community continues to grow slowly.
This past week was a significant cognitive shift for me. My perspective has shifted from me seeing people to learn from and feeling uncertain in how to interact with the world. What does this look like?
Following people that talk about things that interest me, rather than because they’re a “top performer” or trying to sell me on their system.
Recognizing and starting to reach out to people in a helpful, coaching capacity, and recognizing that I have a strong background in helping others already.
Becoming more focused on the Growth Mindset that I need for success and looking for the lesson in anything, good or bad, that’s happening in my life.
I’ve shifted to being at the start again, but also in the middle of my journey.
Re-finding my Focus
Here’s a brief list of some things I had forgotten from my initial vision of Channeling Chaos..
Seek Fans, not Followers! - My vision is in the spirit of the 1000 True Fans model. Don’t try to be all things to all people, instead focus on bringing value to a group that I can interact with.
Focus on Helping - The intent was to bring life management and self-improvement perspective to those struggling with ADHD. While I feel that my solutions are widely applicable to everyone, they’re still from the perspective of someone that has had to get results in spite of the wisdom of the gurus, rather than because of it. Self Help is almost exclusively written for ‘neurotypicals.’
Create a Community - I would love to have a million followers who I can rely on for the wisdom of crowds, but at that scale it is hard to know any of my audience. The goal I have is to create something that is smaller enough that I get to work directly with those who’re interested in what I have to say.
Lessons Learned
Not everyone’s lesson is meant for me, or for you. The gurus of the internet often have the specific agenda of generating wealth for themselves. If someone comes to you with a solution to your problem, look into what they’re getting out of it. Pay attention to the sincerity of their offering, but more importantly, evaluate the method they’re presenting to solve the problem and don’t accept it as your own if it doesn’t resonate with you.
Always refer back to MY original vision before altering course significantly.
Last Week’s Numbers
I had a fairly quiet week last week, I created:
7 Blog Posts on Medium
2 Newsletters, this one and my re-introduction of Channeling Chaos.
I had good growth of my community
95 new followers on Medium
4 new followers on Substack
7 new Subscribers between Medium and Substack
0 Growth on Social Media
What’s Coming Up
I have my 3 newsletters to write, I’ll be adding Threeish back into the mix this week.
Digging back into my blog posting, it gives me a lot to think about and gives me topics for the newsletter as well. I plan to write 12-14 blog posts and publish them on Medium.
I want to bring in some value to my Channeling Chaos community, there will be new content that’s only available to paid subscribers of that newsletter and I plan to create a paid tier that has a small coaching component as well.
I also plan to spend some time creating some worksheets to help the community learn more about themselves and start to create results.
Thanks for Reading
I feel excited to dig into my new focus. I still feel a little silly writing to such a small audience and hope I can start to get some interactions from you guys so I know you’re reading and interested.
If you have anything you’d like to see in this space, or over on Channeling Chaos, please comment!
